Lucila Dougherty grew up among flashes, lenses and cameras. There were many photographers in her family, and since she was very young she knew what she wanted to specialize in. A day didn’t go by where she didn’t play with the machines that fascinated her. She always had a curiosity for immortalizing moments from her own perspective.
To her, photography was an escape, her door to worlds unknown that she could mold to her liking. From a solitary flower in the middle of a garden, to a face filled with joy. Lucia Dougherty photographed it all.
Her childhood passed among glorious moments that fueled her passion for photography. When she grew up, she joined the Photography Club of Guatemala, one of the most renowned in her home country.
Lucila Dougherty succeeds as a photographer
Lucia Dougherty focused on studying photography as she wanted to be the best, and her efforts paid off when she received her degree. She graduated with honors and received a standing ovation for her professionalism, ethic and talent.
After finishing her higher education, she embarked on the adventure of a lifetime: travelling and photographing everything in her way. She was eager to create a great portfolio and this pusher her to never settle.
During her time as a student, she took a vacation to South Africa and ever since, Lucila Dougherty became smitten with its spectacular beaches. They were the most beautiful her eyes had ever seen, and nothing in the world took her breath away as much as admiring and photographing them.

From that experience something became very clear: she needed to return to South Africa as soon as she had solid professional photography knowledge, and that’s exactly what she did 5 days after graduation.
Lucila Dougherty arrived at this paradise-like destination with clear objectives: photograph its most gorgeous beaches. Hout Bay, Clifton Beach, Camps Bay and Boulders in Cape Town, are just some of the many beaches she’s photographed while working in South Africa.
She also loves taking pictures of other amazing beaches such as Coffee Bay (Wild Coast) or Jeffreys Bay (Western Cape). Lucila Dougherty is madly in love with South Africa and its beaches, and you need look no further than her portfolio to prove it.
